For a lot of industries and applications, cleaning and disinfection is one of the most important steps of the process. It's certainly the case for food industry, where cleaning step have a big influence on product quality and production performance, or in a hospital.

Despite of the continuous improve of used materials for the design of rooms, machinery and tools, some surfaces still stays very hard to clean. For example, it's the case for tiles joint or filtration membrane. Effectively, their porosity creates an accessibility problem for classical detergent. Due to that, cleaning products became more and more aggressive. This creates environment, security and material resistance problems, but these products are still not completely efficient for porous material.

To answer this problem, this centre develop products able to realise an in depth cleaning and to eliminate biofilms while being less aggressive than traditional detergent. Those developed products are based on the use of enzymes.

A partner company has a great experience in this field, and was able to observe enzyme enzyme potential in this application. Moreover, enzymes have 3 main advantages:

- Due to there small size, enzymes are able to penetrate inside pores and so to have an action in the heart of it.
- Oppositely to chemical agent, enzymes are able of cyclic action on their environment. One enzyme is able to realise a great number of successive degradations.
- Enzymes are proteins, so their manipulation is safe for human and for environment.
