We have a lot of research that span from micro to nano and the Institute covers the spectrum from IC design right through to technology.  By definition this is nano as I guess the IC industry is perhaps the largest nano industry with patterns at 65nm and layer thicknesses a few atoms thick.

In addition we have a large activity in MEMS/microsystems and their integration with IC technology.  A key technology that we have available is the ability to integrate nanotechnology/materials with advanced foundry technology.

We have micro/nano projects in the following areas.

  • Genomic nanoprocessors with GTI, Physics (COSMIC) and Chemistry (Holiday junctions as switches)
  • Biology on Smart Silicon with Physics and Chemistry
  • Smart X-ray technology
  • SiC MEMS/electronics for harsh environments
  • Drug delivery modules with wireless(industry)
  • Sub-mm sensor for Astronomy applications
  • Bioinspired self assembly for MEMS
  • Organometallic films
  • Liquid droplet movement on silicon
  • Tuning RF MEMS
  • Integrating MEMS/IC technology (industry)
