a) Extreme lithography. This work has resulted in the production of the smallest lateral structures ever fabricated using lithography (1nm tunnel gaps). Mainly a technology project at the moment, applications are in the area of single molecule transistors

 b) Nanosensors. A mature effort in which electron-beam lithography id used to (generically) functionalise AFM tips. Batch mode, wafer scale. Demonstrated magnetic, thermal, electrochemical, near-field optical sensors. Thermal sensors now a commercial product. Research grants funded in the areas of Near-Field Optical and Scanning Capacitance microscopy.

 c) Nanotubes (just starting). To control the growth of SWNTs using a combination of MEMS,
Electron-beam lithography with an initial goal of mass fabricated nanotube AFM tips.

I am also involved in collaborations in the areas of nanomagnetics and high speed electronics, both as a minor component.
