Applications


Wide ranges of potential applications exist for the pulsed plasma treatment processes we have developed. Our current focus is on improving the biocompatibility of implant materials and introducing new methods of controlled drug release.

 

Medical Device Coatings


The rapid growth in development of new implantable medical devices has made the need for improving the biocompatibility of implants critical. The company's plasma deposition process increases biocompatibility by treating the surfaces of medical devices, stents, and catheters with ultra thin, ultra smooth coatings that better prevent protein and bacterial attachment. Our proprietary algorithm for pulsed RF plasma deposition minimizes surface bioreactivity, and thereby reduces or eliminates inflammatory responses. The coating can be tailored to eliminate cellular adhesion moieties which greatly diminishes scar tissue formation.

In addition to delivering a smooth, controlled surface, AeonClad The company can further increase biocompatibility, enable the reduction in inflammatory responses, and improve the wound healing process by introducing controlled release drug compounds into the coating matrix. Our flexible process also enables us to incorporate fluorophores into coatings to make implanted devices more visible to imaging systems.

 

Industrial Coatings


The company enables the creation of molecularly designed surfaces for a number of industrial applications. For nano- or microparticles used in filtration, chromatography, or as carriers of biochemical tests, AeonClad is able to create ultra-thin, specialized surfaces for increased or decreased hydrophobicity or increased lubricity.

Our technology can also allow the creation of tightly patterned surfaces, using masking techniques, to create multiple modalities and functionalities on a single particle or device.

We are also able to enhance drug delivery formulation methods by creating custom surfaces around pharmaceuticals with specialized thickness and reactivity. The company can eliminate threats to mechanically defeat time release aspects of a formulation.

 

Because the company can coat particles ranging in size from nanoscale through macroscale, the coating can become a virtually intrinsic component in the bulk material.
