Transdermal Nanoparticle Delivery

The painless delivery of large bio-pharmaceutical molecules across the essentially impervious stratum corneum using topologically undulating patches is the focus of this transdermal delivery process.

The company's transdermal nanoparticle delivery technology utilises nanostructured, large molecule therapeutic drugs, hormones and vaccines.

The initial product in development is a novel MicroArray Patch with nanostructured insulin using passive (diffusion) patches. The materials of the patches are all approved, registered and proven for use in human applications. These patches have been developed for the delivery of large molecules (proteins, including antibodies) across the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum).

Efficiency of delivery is being evaluated for nanoparticulate materials (quantum dots) along with nanostructured proteins and peptides such as insulin and ovalbumin. The proof of concept and research phases of this project in rodents are about to be completed with:

- Demonstrated delivery of Insulin Nanoparticles with reduced glucose levels.

- Exciting results on immune responses to pure antigen.

- A prototype applicator has been developed and the company is about to enter the preclinical phase and plans to identify a key commercial drug and antigen to take forward into trials.

- Future developments consist of delivery-on demand (active) patches.
