Nano and micro emulsions and encapsulations for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutriceutical, and other personal care markets

Nanoemulsions that cover the size range of 50-200 nm are kinetically stable systems with long term physical stability (against creaming or sedimentation, flocculation and coalescence). They are colloidal dispersed systems of at least two immiscible liquids. Due to their small particle size they posses a large inner surface, their appearance is transparent to bluish opaque, they show very little polydispersity and are highly stable against creaming and coalescence.

Nanoemulsions have attracted considerable attention in recent years for application in personal care products and cosmetics, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, household products etc. They are valued in skin care due to their good sensorial properties (rapid penetration, merging textures) and their biophysical properties (especially their hydrating power).

Nanoemulsions are easily formulated using high-pressure homogenizers with proper choice of surfactants and/or polymers. Due to their small size they enhance penetration, spreading and will give uniform distribution on the substrate on which they are applied.
