The researchers are actively involved in research on the use of web coating for the production of functional materials coatings on large area polymer substrates.They have a commercial scale polymer web-coater (350 mm web + sputtering, evaporation, polymer deposition sources) dedicated to fundamental research in the area of new materials technologies. The equipment has unique capabilities in multilayer deposition, and has already been used to deposit on a polymer web functional materials of the kind used in photochromic devices (WO3 for example).
In addition, the Materials Department has a comprehensive range of world-class characterization facilities for nanomaterials. They are looking for partners in substanti-al development projects to explore novel materials combinations and processing strategies to fabricate advanced composites.
