The Institute’s technology for surface modification is based on the electrochemical and chemical synthesis of polymeric thin films or polymer brushes that attach chemically to the surface. This technology can be applied to metals as well as other surfaces such as plastics or glass. Depending on the application (high energy surface) or low energy surfaces hydrophilic or fluorinated polymers can be grown from the surface. In the case of the low energy surfaces nanoparticles can be included in the system aiming at obtaining superhydrophobic surfaces.
