The researcher has developed a family of related polyurethanes all containing nano-cages. They comprise seven groups of materials, which have been patented. Tests have shown them to be extremely bio-stable and TWI (Cambridge) has demonstrated their mechanical superiority.  As part of this work the nano-cages give excellent anti-adhesive properties. In one of the patents made in collaboration with Biochemistry peptides can be added in this application which interfere with the enzymes used by molluscs to attach to surfaces. The combination of these two approaches as paint for anti-fouling represents a highly cost effective means of preventing this problem.
