A technology company which recently started to commercialize a process to create thick (up to 20 microns) hard wearing (with Hv of between 4,000 to 8,000) diamond-like carbon coating created at room temperature (no stress). This coating is strongly hyrdophobic, but the company believe that they can also make it hydrophilic. They have the capability to coat objects in a surface coating of thick amorphous and hard wearing carbon – this would not contain fluorine, would be hydrophobic and would be easy to clean as well as resistant to microabrasion. The process uses a plasma assisted CVD process at about 40-50C. |
