Company Germany

Using an innovative, modified sol-gel-process, the company manufactures spherical nanoparticles enabling the production of materials with unprecedented combinations of properties - and on an industrial scale.

The company's silica nanoparticles are:

- monodispersed,
- non-agglomerated,
- spherical
- nano-scaled (20 nm) and
with a very narrow particle size distribution.

It is the versatility that makes this process so unique: the nanoparticles can be incorporated into a wide range of different polymer materials. The nanocomposites thus produced are very well suited for further processing due to their low viscosity.

They achieve an unprecedented and specific improvement in the mechanical and thermal material properties - without the disadvantages usually associated with inorganic fillers. Thus the toughness and hardness of a material can be increased without any loss in optical clarity.

The new nanocomposites can also be used as raw materials for coatings or varnishes and as additives for a wide variety of other applications.

Additives for resistant coatings

The company provides a wide range of products for use in coatings and similar areas. Depending on the application and modification required, different products can be used to improve the property profile of coatings:

Modifying radiation-curing coatings with nanoparticles

- improved scratch and abrasion resistance
- constant transparency and gloss
- barrier effect against gases, water vapor and solvents

Modifying heat and room temperature curing epoxy coatings with nanoparticles

- improved scratch and abrasion resistance
- increase in tear resistance, fracture toughness and modulus
- lower viscosity of the formulation in comparison to conventional fillers

Modifying coatings with silicone-epoxy-copolymers

- increased flexibility of coatings

Modifying coatings with silicone elastomer particles

- improved fracture toughness
- smooth surfaces
- improved release properties

Adhesives

Depending on the application and desired modification, different products can be used for improving the properties profile of adhesives:

Toughening heat curing epoxy adhesives with copolymers

- improved impact resistance over a wide temperature range
- improved adhesion to metals, mineral substrates and oil-treated steels

Toughening and elastification of room temperature curing epoxy adhesives with copolymers

- improved impact resistance over a wide temperature range
- improved adhesion to metals, mineral substrates and oil-treated steels
- specific systems with very high elongation can be formulated

Modifying heat and room temperature curing epoxy adhesives with nanoparticles

- improved impact resistance over a wide temperature range
- improved adhesion to metals, mineral substrates and oil-treated steels
- high modulus, particularly high lap shear and peel strengths

Toughening acrylate adhesives with copolymers

- improved impact resistance over a wide temperature range
- improved adhesion to metals, mineral substrates and oil-treated steels
- specific systems with very high elongation can be formulated

Modifying UV-cured adhesives with nanoparticles

- significantly improved tear resistance, fracture toughness and modulus
- high-filled, transparent systems can be formulated
- significantly improved adhesion to inorganic substrates (e.g. to glass)
