Institute develops materials and technologies for a range of surface refined products. Material development is on the basis of nanoscale inorganic-organic hybrid materials by sol-gel processing. The technology is based on wet chemical lacquer technology, to be used with standard equipment. Spectroscopic methods and standardized processes are used for monitoring the synthesis and chemical analysis of starting compounds, coating solutions and cured films.

Commercial applications include hard coatings for eye glasses, magnifying lenses and overhead lenses, decorative coatings for glass and dental filling composites. One application area is for sanitary use with steel or plastic surfaces: anti-soiling, anti-fingerprint, scratch resistance. Another that is being developed is for shower cabins, easy to clean, and scratch resistant transparent surfaces.
