[nanoPost] Manufacture of nano-structured calcium silicate (NCS)

The product has high surface area and large pore volume and can be functionalised to offer anti- microbial effects using silver. We are presently investigating applications for NCS in paint and surface coatings utilising the antimicrobial effects and also provide opacifying effect.

Other applications involve NCS+phase change material composite for use in the thermal packaging field. This composite has the advantage that due to high surface area /pore volume of NCS the phase change material does not need containment. Previously expensive containment packaging of PCMs has limited potential of PCMs to buffer temperature extremes during transport of high value products biologicals, vaccines etc and also food products. The use of NCS+PCM also has potential to increase thermal mass of building products which has previously struggled to effectively contain the PCM at a reasonable cost.

There is published work on NCS showing its anti-microbial properties and also NCS+Phase change material.

NCS is produced by a relatively simple manufacturing process which is scaleable. Samples for testing are available now and Jim and his team are available for consulting help.
