This research group is undertaking the research projects on developing nano-structured photocatalyst to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by photocatalysis process. They have synthesized nanostructured TiO2-SiO2 particles that have higher BET surface areas (421 m2/g), and high photo reactivity. The analytical results of their samples shows a very uniform distribution of the fine pore size (4 -5 nm) and high pore volume (0.5 cm3/g), which are quite important characteristics for selective air emission control. In addition to the advanced catalysts developed, they have also developed an operational approach that uses adsoprtion and photocatalysis alternately, as a result, the removal efficiency of VOCs has been very high.
