Company Canada

The company has proprietary energy storage technology. The product suite of nanostructured thin-film materials is in the process of being applied to a broad range of applications, including:

- Capacitors, with the packaging flexibility to be embedded in electronic components such as circuit boards, yet outperforming conventional (surface mount and through-hole) capacitor technologies.
- Shielding, filtering and other products that can make electronic devices safer and more efficient.

Technology platforms

1. A proprietary suite of solid state materials and packaging formats/processes that store electricity at unusually high energy densities. The materials are nanometer-scale thin-film dielectrics that are designed for use as capacitors (embedded or discrete), batteries, semiconductor devices, and numerous other applications in which efficient energy storage and flexible electrical and packaging parameters are needed.

2. An environmentally friendly energy technology that significantly increases the combustion efficiency of natural gas. The scientists in the program have designed it by studying the behaviour of electrons within the combustion process, and changes in their behaviour when influenced by targeted external forces.

3.  Nanophotonics- the company are working towards developing quantum dot/wire lasers, detectors/emitters, and optical signal processors. Quantum dots are surface indentations or protrusions the size of a small number of atoms. Quantum wires are where quantum dots form a line and hence can be used to direct or channel signals. Achievement of these goals would result in communications systems with bandwidth per unit diameter orders of magnitude higher than current technology, and both speed and reliability also greatly increased.
