The development of new polymer electrolytes is needed for many kinds of electrochemical applications such as separators in high energy density lithium battery. Many studies have focused on the enhancement of ionic conductivities of polymer electrolytes, most of them, due to their strong solvating ability, performed on poly(oxyethylene) (POE) and its copolymers. Semi crystalline POE electrolytes provide therefore appropriate conductivities after their fusion but then lose their mechanical strength. The improvement of mechanical properties and/or conductivities can be obtained using composite polymer electrolytes; the nanometric size of organic and inorganic charges is an important parameter. The use of cellulose whiskers nanocomposite polymer electrolytes allows high ionic conductivities and very high mechanical strength to be conciliated. |
