[nanoPost] Hydrophobic corrosion resistant coatings

One of the research fields is the use of self-assembly technique for the production of multifunctional coatings. This new coatings have at least two properties at the same time, for example they have a strong corrosion resistance (they pass strong corrosion tests) and they are hydrophobic or super-hydrophobic (from 100 to 170º of contact angle).

The advantages of these coatings is their low price, based in the use of millimolar solutions and the perfect adhesion to metallic and other substrates due to the formation of strong covalent bonds between the metal and the head of the organic molecule. These coatings can be used for the prevention of fouling and corrosion in marine environmental, and also for the fouling prevention in fermentation tanks.
