The group are dealing with novel types of filter media, maybe also with a potential to be developed into catalytic media. The filter media are intended to be used for absorption of gas pollutants, mainly SO2 but virtually any pollutant might be trapped. These media are tailor-made, based on silica and combined with various impregnants to enable gas absorption media which offer great versatility for the benefit of the industry. The media resembles "aerogel" in structure but are much simpler to produce. Their main competition comes from well established media such as alumina beads impregnated with potassium permanganate.
They have recently filed a patent application for this new product and for the process of manufacture.
