Company Australia

Water Treatment

The company has developed a new chemical process that efficiently removes ammonia from wastewaters via ion exchange and then concentrates ammonia into a commercial fertiliser.

The company has developed a patented new material for use in its ammonia removal and recovery process.

The company's ammonia removal and recovery process is suited to a wide range of contaminated waters including sewage outflows, anaerobic digester liquors, landfill leachate, abattoir effluent and chemical plant process water.

Process Technology

The company ammonia removal and recovery process:

- Rapidly removes ammonium ions from process streams
- Enables re-use of the poduct for ammonia removal
- Allows nutrient recovery for re-use as fertilisers
- Allows re-use of spent MesoLite as fertilisers
- Provides treated water suitable for recycling, re-use or tertiary polishing
- Uses existing, conventional engineering technology
- Retro-fits to existing wastewater treatment plants
- Can be used as stand-alone installation or as back-up support for larger wastewater treatment plants.

The product for ammonia removal is a mesoporous alumino-silicate manufactured from naturally-occuring clay minerals.

The product  has an exceptional capacity for ammonium ion exchange in solutions across a broad range of pH. MesoLite shows ion exchange capacities for ammonia between 300 and 600 milliequivalents per 100g.

The exchangable ion on the product depends on specific applications. For ammonia removal, the exchangeable ion is generally potassium, sodium or a combination of both ions.

Applications of this unique mesoporous material are enhanced by designable properties such as pore size, pore distribution, type of exchangeable ion and surface area.
