| A main research focus is related to the field of nanomaterials (e.g. nanoparticles and sensor chips) and nanocomposites (e.g. nanofiltration matrices). Through collaboration with companies, the research team has developed and validated numerous interphase technologies that provide solutions for the industry (food and water sectors). Examples of successful applications include the following: • Immunomagnetic micro- and nano-particles for real-time capture and analysis of microorganisms (e.g. Salmonella, Listeria and yeasts) in foods and beverages; • Aluminium oxide nanofibre/glass composites for the real-time concentration and detection of foodborne viruses. In addition, within the company, they have significant tract record/expertise in Microbiology, and have carried out a number of studies on biofilm formation and prevention using model surfaces, and studying effects of microbial signaling molecules. |
