• Easy to apply coating techniques without any restrictions to the substrate;
• The activity has to be increased e. g. by visible light technologies.
The nanoparticle approach is considered to be one of the most attractive technologies to achieve these goals, since nanoparticle properties and nanoparticle processing techniques permit a wide range of coating material fabrication but still promise a high degree of innovation, which is not yet developed. For these reasons, a new nanoparticle route based on tailor-made doped and undoped nanoparticles with controlled surface chemistry is proposed as a basis for developing coating materials for application in architecture, automotive and life sciences.
The nanopowder with the brand name Nanozid is added to paints and lacquers used to coat operating tables, door knobs and door handles in hospitals (e.g. "clean rooms”) and surfaces in sanitary facilities. In addition to their obvious utility in the clinical sector, biocidal coatings have numerous applications in the food and beverage industries and in HVAC systems, which frequently serve as vehicles for the spread of infectious diseases.
